Is HCG Weight Loss Sustainable?
The HCG Diet for weight loss is a highly effective way to quickly shed weight under medical supervision. This popular program follows an intensive regimen that includes a very low fat and low calorie diet that works in conjunction with HCG injections or pellets. Our clients have seen a loss of up to 17 pounds in just 21 days following our protocol.
Because the diet is so restrictive, people often wonder if the HCG diet is sustainable. And, the answer is yes, with the help of our weight loss Austin specialists!
Follow along as we explore how the HCG diet works and explain what makes our HCG Diet Plan sustainable for those looking for long-term weight loss in Austin.
What’s the HCG Diet?
The acronym HCG in HCG stands for “human chorionic gonadotropin” a group of amino acids that's been shown to suppress appetite. Developed in the 1950’s by a British doctor named Albert Simons, the HCG diet is a weight loss protocol that involves restricting calorie consumption to 500-800 calories per day while taking HCG hormone injections at specific doses. This has been consistently shown to achieve dramatic weight loss, often in as little as a few days.
Is the HCG Diet Sustainable?
HCG diets work in 3 phases. While you are in an active phase, it is absolutely sustainable but it isn’t intended to be a long-term solution. Your diet plan will consist of:
- A loading phase, whereby you eat plenty of fat and high calorie foods for 2 days.
- A weight loss phase, whereby you take HCG injections or pellets, and restrict your caloric intake to 500-800 calories per day.
- A transition phase, whereby you stop taking HCG injections or pellets, and gradually increase your food intake.
It’s during the third “transition phase” that a solid maintenance plan under proper medical supervision is important. By eating the right foods in the right quantities (by working with our Austin weight loss specialists), you’ll be able to gradually increase your calories without regaining weight.
Our version of the HCG Diet monitored by our weight loss Austin specialists can help you, your body, and your appetite fully transition and keep the weight off for good.
What Makes Our HCG Plan for Weight Loss in Austin Sustainable
Unlike traditional HCG Diet programs, our HCG Diet plan is unique in that it provides a 3-week ‘transition phase’ to help your body adjust to a low calorie/low glycemic diet (or another diet) following your ‘weight loss phase.’
This includes the following steps:
Week 1: Following your final HCG injection or pellet, you’ll remain on the HCG diet for 3 days. Then, for the next four days, you’ll add one additional serving of both protein and a vegetable to your diet (while sticking to the same serving size). This will put your daily calories at about 700-800.
Week 2: After the first week of your ‘transition phase,’ you increase your calories up to about 1,000 per day, by gradually incorporating healthy fats back into your diet, such as olive oil, salmon, avocado, etc. You can also begin exercising—moderately—during this week, as well. Keep in mind: No sugar or starch (including fruit) is allowed during this phase other than 1 handful of either strawberries or blueberries per day.
Week 3: Following week 2 of your HCG diet transition phase, you’ll meet with us at our weight loss clinic in Austin to go over the next steps to transition to either a low calorie/low glycemic diet or another diet that works best for you and your goals.
As long as you:
- Continue to regularly weigh-in every week (you are welcome to weigh-in at our weight loss clinic in Austin)
- Keep your calories under your basal metabolic rate (or, how many calories you can take in)
- Revisit our weight loss clinic in Austin at least once a month for check-ins (to help keep yourself accountable)
…you should be able to keep the weight off for good.
