Why Drinking More Water Helps You Lose Weight
If you are trying to lose weight, then you should be drinking more water. Exercise is also an important part of weight loss. However, dehydration can impair your workouts. If you are not drinking water until you feel thirsty, then you are probably already dehydrated. Staying hydrated will make it easier for you to complete your workout.
Drinking water can also increase your metabolism. There was a study done in 2003 that examined the effect that water intake had on metabolism. The study involved subjects who consumed 16 additional ounces of water per day. The results of the study showed that drinking water can temporarily increase metabolism by up to 30 percent. They were able to burn 200 additional calories every day just by drinking water.
Water Fights Hunger
Drinking water helps keep you feeling full. Many of us mistake dehydration for hunger. Lightheadedness, dizziness, gurgling stomach and low energy levels are what many people experience when they are hungry. You can experience these same symptoms when you are dehydrated. That is why it is important to drink water throughout the day. If you drink plenty of water, then you can naturally reduce your appetite.
Replacing other beverages with water will allow you to naturally reduce your caloric intake. This means that you can save hundreds of calories per day. Furthermore, when you swap out other beverages for water you can reduce your sugar intake. Sugar can also cause you to gain weight.
Additionally, you can lose weight by drinking water before you eat a meal. Studies have shown that people who drink water before a meal consume 75 fewer calories. This may not seem like much, but it will add up over time. You will consume 27,000 fewer calories per year if you drink water before one meal each day. You will be able to lose nearly eight pounds in one year. You can lose even more weight if you drink water before every meal.
