What is Acupuncture?

When acupuncture was first invented around 100 BC in China, it was used as a means to refocus “chi,” or energy flow. By placing needles at acupuncture points, or points of blocked chi, it was thought to unblock your chi and let your energy flow freely.

While most people think of acupuncture as simply putting needles into your body, it is a far more involved process. Through strategic pressure point relief, Blue Tree Health aims to give you the peace of mind to go forward with your life.

While the mystic aspect has faded over the years, acupuncture still helps with common pressure point problems. The relief you can feel after a session can change your life, adding energy and vitality to your routine once again.

How Does Acupuncture Work?

A typical treatment can last anywhere from 15 minutes to one hour. The first thing your acupuncture specialist will do is evaluate your physical and mental state. He or she will see how you are feeling, look for the most problematic points, and determine your mood.

The specialist will then assess any problem areas on your body. These may be regions of tension or simply places where you carry your body too much (i.e., if you carry most of your posture in your shoulders). Addressing these tense areas will let the specialist know where to place the most care.

You will then be asked to lie on a table. The specialist will take out very thin needles that have been thoroughly sterilized. Due to the severity and the stigma associated with needles, we at Blue Tree Health go out of our way to provide the cleanest, best acupuncture tools possible.

The needles are then inserted into the troubled areas. Over the course of the session, you will be covered in acupuncture needles. By the end, each one will have been gingerly removed and placed in a safe location away from harm. By the end of the session, you will hopefully feel refreshed and renewed.

People have different experiences with acupuncture. Due to the nature of the practice, many feel tense about needles in their body. Our specialists take the utmost care of our patients and the practice of acupuncture. Your safety and well-being are crucial to us.

Does Acupuncture Hurt?

“Does acupuncture hurt?” is the most common question we get. However, the way it is today is a far cry from the archaic needles used for shots whenever you were a kid. Acupuncture needles are precision tools that are designed to increase your comfort and lower your stress levels.

Most patients will feel a little pressure where the needle is applied. It is similar to lightly pressing on your wrist or forearm. After the needle is inserted, the only other thing you may feel is the specialist putting it into place.

If you have any anxiety or discomfort during acupuncture appointment, tell your specialist immediately. We want you to feel like you are in a safe and stress-free environment. Acupuncture should help you attain a better level of happiness. If you aren’t feeling happy, we are not doing our jobs.

No, it does not. If it does, you are with a specialist that is not practicing right.
